Custom T-beam moulds supplied for the Pingzan Expressway branch. A T-beam is long and narrow, so straightness over the full length — not the panel thickness — is what decides whether the finished beam is acceptable.

What we supplied

For Branch 8 of the Pingzan Expressway, Zhongbian designed and built custom steel moulds exclusively for T-beams and substructure components, supplied to China Communications No.2 Engineering Bureau.

Custom means built backwards from the beam drawing: panel layouts, flange geometry and stripping mechanics matched to the yard’s casting cycle rather than adapted from a catalogue.

The moulds carry the factory’s standard build quality — Q235B panels 3–5 mm, fully welded back ribs, ±0.5 mm dimensional tolerance and trial assembly before dispatch.

What is the hardest part of building a T-beam mould?

Straightness over length. A T-beam section is long and narrow, so any bow in the panel shows as a visible line along the finished beam. The panels are jig-assembled and the casting face is checked against a straight edge rather than relying on the steel supplier tolerance.

Why specify steel rather than timber for T-beam work?

Repeat geometry and tolerance. A bridge contract casts the same T-beam section many times, and holding plus or minus 3 mm internal dimensions plus a consistent surface finish is difficult in timber beyond the first few casts.

What tolerance should I ask for on T-beam moulds?

Plus or minus 3 mm on internal dimensions is standard and is what most bridge specifications require. Squareness matters as much as side lengths, so specify diagonal tolerance as well — typically 4 mm across the section.
