PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

About this mould

Tetrapods interlock on breakwater slopes to take wave energy apart. They are massive, cast by the thousand, and their four-legged geometry has to survive both the pour and the sea.

Zhongbian builds tetrapod moulds as heavy-duty assemblies: thick Q235 plate with fully welded rib cages sized to the block weight class, split lines and draft tuned for fast stripping.

Weight classes and leg geometry follow the coastal design drawing. Painted finish, export packing with wooden crates, and dimensional reports ship with every set.

ADVANTAGES

Why buyers choose this mould

Sized to the block mass, not to a catalogue

Panel thickness, rib cage, latch positions and lifting points are calculated from the weight class of the armour unit, typically 2 tonnes up to 40 tonnes and beyond.

A split line that releases cleanly

The mould opens on a designed split line with latches, so a heavy block is stripped without dragging the legs or damaging the casting face. This is where poor tetrapod moulds fail first.

Extra stiffening where stress concentrates

The junction between the legs and the hub carries additional ribs and stiffeners, because that is the area that sees the highest local load during stripping and stacking.

Ships as bolt together sections

Large moulds are built as sections that fit standard containers and are assembled and aligned at your yard, so you are not paying for out of gauge freight.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

Where it works

Tetrapod moulds are used on breakwaters, harbour entrances, coastal defence works and shore-protection schemes where wave energy must be dissipated before it reaches the structure.

Coastal and port protection. Breakwaters, groynes, seawalls, harbour arms and outfall protection use interlocking armour units to dissipate wave energy and reduce overtopping.

Shore and river works. Bank protection, training walls and river outfalls are cast as close to the placement point as possible, so that heavy blocks are lifted once rather than transported twice.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you inquire

Which block weight classes can you build?
Per drawing — typically 2 t to 40+ t; rib cages and panel thickness are sized to the block mass.
How many reuses will I get?
Heavy-duty tetrapod moulds are built for long service; reuse counts depend on the stripping method and are quoted with the offer.
How is a heavy mould shipped?
Disassembled into container-size sections, fixed in wooden crates with waterproof film — FOB Tianjin, CIF on request.
How long will a heavy tetrapod mould last?
Heavy duty moulds are built for long service when stripped as designed, but the honest answer depends on vibration time, release agent and crane handling. We state the expected reuse figure in the offer rather than quoting a single number for every site.
Do you supply the lifting arrangements?
Yes. Lifting lugs and cast in fittings can be included. Give us the block weight and the handling equipment in your yard and the lifting arrangement is detailed with the mould drawings.
What is included with a large mould order?
Sections, latches, bolts, assembly drawings, release agent guidance and an English manual. Trial assembly is carried out at our works and photographed before dispatch so you know the set leaves us in fit condition.
